Northeast Regional Arthritis Center
About
The Northeast Missouri Regional Arthritis Center provides arthritis education and information to community groups, organizations, classes, professionals or individuals. It is one of seven such centers established in Missouri by the Department of Health.
Counties served by the Northeast Center are: Clark, Lewis, Marion, Ralls, Scotland, Knox, Shelby, Schuyler, Adair, Macon, Putnam, Sullivan, Linn, Mercer, Grundy, and Livingston.
It is estimated that 1.2 million Missourians have rheumatic disease. The state program is designed to promote optimal quality of life for people with arthritis by increasing public knowledge regarding the need for early, accurate diagnosis and appropriate early treatment.
Educational information about the different types of arthritis and related conditions and ways to live well with arthritis is available to you and your community. See the list below.
- Arthritis Foundation Self-management programs - Featuring self-management strategies for people who have arthritis or fibromyalgia. A resource guide is available to find a class in your area.
- Exercise programs - Arthritis Foundation exercise class listing is available.
- Chronic Disease Self-Management - The Stanford University Patient Education Research Center Program is for those with arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, asthma or other chronic conditions. A resource guide is available to find a class in your area.
- Free pamphlets on a variety of subjects such as disease facts, medications, exercise, managing fatigue, stress or pain, and protecting the joints from stress. Displays can be provided.
- Community education - Featuring educational programs or displays for clubs, community organizations and religious groups and health fairs.
- Referrals - For early diagnosis, treatment and community resources. A list of area rheumatologists is available.
- Leader Training for evidence-based courses: Arthritis Foundation Exercise, Self-Management and Chronic Disease Self-Management Programs. Ask about leadership opportunities.
- Lending Library - The NEMO RAC office has limited collection of books, periodicals and videos available.
