Kids Get Arthritis, Too

Most people think arthritis only affects the elderly but in the United States almost 300,000 children have some form of the disease. In St. Louis on March 14th, the first annual Kids Get Arthritis, Too Trivia Night will raise money to support the special needs of children coping with arthritis in Missouri.

"Arthritis has robbed too many children of too many hours of childhood," says Stephanie Stangl. public relations coordinator for the Eastern Missouri Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. "We are fighting for a cure to end the pain."

"A trivia night is fun for the entire family," adds Stangl. "There will be plenty of food, refreshments, raffles, and even a silent auction. It's a chance to test your knowledge as you help raise money for the 4,000 Missouri children living with arthritis pain."

The event will take place at Kemp Auto Museum in St. Louis during National Juvenile Arthritis Week, doors open at 7:00 p.m. There will be great food and drinks, raffles, a silent auction, and prizes for the winning team.

"Not many people know how devastating juvenile arthritis can be and how widespread the disease truly is," says Stangl. "More children are diagnosed with juvenile arthritis each year than juvenile diabetes and cerebral palsy combined. The Kids Get Arthritis, Too Trivia Night will raise awareness and funds for programs, services and research for juvenile arthritis."

Tickets are $30 or $300 for a table of 10, which includes drinks, snacks and ten rounds of trivia. Proceeds will benefit juvenile arthritis research and programs for Missouri children.

Get a team together and reserve your table today. Contact Stephanie Stangl, public relations coordinator for the Eastern Missouri Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, at (314)991-9333 or sstangl@arthritis.org.

The Missouri Arthritis Research Rehabilitation and Training Center (MARRTC) was established in 1971 at the University of Missouri-Columbia Arthritis Center. MARRTC is funded by the U.S. Department of Education's National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (H133B031120) and is the only federally funded arthritis rehabilitation research and training center in the country.

As part of the MU Health Communication Research Center (HCRC), MARRTC's mission is to become a national leader in the areas of disability management and communication, improve the quality of life and promote independent living among people who have arthritis and arthritic conditions. MARRTC's core message is "Disability is everyone's issue."
