100 Miles for Arthritis
Columbia, Mo. (May 21, 2007) - In the United States, arthritis is the leading cause of disability. Raising money to find a cure and support research is always on the minds of millions. The Arthritis Foundation will host the third annual "100 Miles for Arthritis" motorcycle ride on Sunday, June 1st in St. Louis. Money raised from "100 Miles for Arthritis" will support the 1.3 million people in Missouri living with arthritis.
"100 Miles for Arthritis is a chance for people to enjoy a great motorcycle ride, entertainment and food while helping Missourians, including 5,700 children, living with arthritis pain," says Stephanie Stangl, public relations coordinator for the Eastern Missouri Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. "Funds help support research, advocacy efforts, and education for people with arthritis."
Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the United States, report the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Arthritis is a chronic disease that causes pain, inflammation, and stiffness in the affected joints. Often, people with arthritis experience added stress, limited mobility, or even challenges at home and work.
"100 Miles for Arthritis" is a 100-mile scenic motorcycle ride winding through the Fairview Heights area. Last year, more than 200 people participated in the event. The motorcycle ride will start and finish at Show-Me's on Laclede's Landing, followed by live entertainment, including the Smash Band. There will also be food, courtesy of Twister's Pub & Grill, and lots of prizes.
In the past, a mix of both men and women participate. "It's usually either people who enjoy a great ride or who are passionate in helping us find a cure for arthritis," says Stangl. Few children participate in this event.
